How to Get to Kinugawa Onsen from Tokyo and Nikko

Direct trains from Tokyo in about two hours, or 40 minutes from Nikko with one change.

From Tokyo

Limited expresses for Kinugawa-Onsen (Spacia X, Kinu, Revaty) leave Asakusa through the day. Some trains divide at Shimo-Imaichi, with one half continuing to Nikko — make sure you are in the right car.

From Nikko

Take the Tobu train from Tobu-Nikko to Shimo-Imaichi (about 8 minutes) and change for Kinugawa-Onsen (about 25 minutes). With a connection, allow 40 minutes. A direct bus also links the Nikko shrines area with Edo Wonderland and Kinugawa a few times a day.

Getting around

Local buses from Kinugawa-Onsen station loop past the hotels and run to Edo Wonderland. Tobu World Square has its own station. For Ryuokyo, Kawaji and Yunishigawa, continue north on the Tobu Kinugawa Line and the Yagan Railway, which run through to each other.

Tobu’s Nikko Pass All Area covers the trains as far as Shin-Fujiwara and local buses; the Yagan Railway beyond is extra.

Many ryokan send a shuttle to meet trains in the afternoon. Tell them your arrival time when you book.
