1Kinugawa Onsen and the Kinutateiwa Bridge
The resort lines both sides of the gorge. At its southern end, the 140-metre Kinutateiwa suspension bridge crosses nearly 40 metres above the river to a rock outcrop with a viewpoint over the hotels and mountains. Free foot baths stand in front of the station and along the river.
ℹ️ Bridge and foot baths free, always open. 10 minutes’ walk from Kinugawa-Onsen station. Allow 45 minutes.

2Edo Wonderland Nikko Edomura
A full-scale Edo-period town of merchants’ streets, a samurai quarter and ninja village, with costumed staff, ninja and courtesan-procession shows, and the chance to rent a kimono or samurai outfit for the day. It is equally fun for adults and children.
ℹ️ About 9:00–17:00 (9:30–16:00 in winter), usually closed Wednesdays; day pass around ¥5,800, less after 14:00. Bus from Kinugawa-Onsen station, about 20 minutes. Allow 4–5 hours.

3Tobu World Square
Over a hundred famous buildings — from the Pyramids and the Sagrada Família to Tokyo Skytree — reproduced at 1:25 scale, with 140,000 tiny figures. It has its own railway station at the gate.
ℹ️ About 9:00–17:00 (shorter in winter); admission around ¥2,800. Tobu World Square station, one stop before Kinugawa-Onsen. Allow 2 hours.

4Ryuokyo Gorge
A three-kilometre gorge of volcanic rock sculpted by the river, said to resemble a twisting dragon. A trail from Ryuokyo station passes Nijimi Falls, a shrine on the cliff edge and a suspension bridge with the best view.
ℹ️ Free, always open; best late Oct–mid Nov. Ryuokyo station on the Yagan Railway, about 10 minutes beyond Kinugawa-Onsen. Short loop 1 hour; full walk to Kawaji 2–3 hours.

5SL Taiju
A restored steam locomotive hauling vintage carriages between Shimo-Imaichi and Kinugawa-Onsen, complete with a working turntable you can watch at either end.
ℹ️ Runs most weekends and some weekdays, several trips a day; a seat-reservation fee (around ¥760–1,080) is added to the fare. About 35 minutes each way.

6Kawaji Onsen
A small hot-spring village where the Kinugawa and Ojika rivers meet, known for a mixed-gender riverside open-air bath and a handful of traditional inns. A good end point for the Ryuokyo walk.
ℹ️ Kawaji-Yumoto station, about 20 minutes beyond Kinugawa-Onsen.

7Yunishigawa Onsen
A remote valley village said to have been settled by fugitives of the Heike clan after their defeat in 1185. Thatched houses, hearth-grilled river fish and, from late January to early March, the Kamakura Festival of snow huts and hundreds of candle-lit miniature igloos.
ℹ️ Train to Yunishigawa-Onsen station (about 30 minutes beyond Kinugawa-Onsen), then a 25-minute bus. Best with an overnight stay.

8Kinugawa River Boat Ride
Boatmen steer long wooden boats through gentle rapids and beneath the gorge walls for about 40 minutes, with a bus back to the start.
ℹ️ Roughly mid-April to late November, several departures a day; around ¥3,200. Pier 5 minutes’ walk from Kinugawa-Onsen station.
