Season by season

Spring. Cherry blossom in early April, then the wisteria. The busiest and most expensive time.

Summer. Very hot — this corner of Kanto is among the warmest in Japan. A big fireworks display is held over the Watarase River in early August.

Autumn. Mild; Banna-ji’s ginkgo and the maples at the temples colour in late November. The winery’s harvest festival is in mid-November.

Winter. Dry and sunny with cold evenings; the illuminations are at their busiest around Christmas.

Crowds

Golden Week at the flower park is intensely crowded. Go on a weekday in the last week of April, or the week after the holiday for the white wisteria.
